As part of the Connecting Borders Initiative, Bharati Dance Academy and the Bharati Foundation in partnership with Community Board 9, Vishnu Mandir, 43rd Precinct Community Council, NYPD Housing Police Service Area 8, Ridgewood Savings Bank and several leading organizations hosted the inaugural ‘Backed by a Bag’ back to school event on Saturday, August 20 at the Sonia Sotomayor Community Center. Over 200 children and their families received backpacks from Wellcare and school supplies from United Healthcare to encourage their academic dedication.
