Bronx-native serves aboard USS Gladiator
A borough native is keeping the high seas free in the Middle East, the U.S. Navy reports. Master Chief Petty Officer Igor Vargas is serving aboard the U.S.S. Gladiator, a mine sweeper.
Vargas is a master chief who lives and works at a U.S. Navy base in Manama, Bahrain, where the Gladiator is based.
Bahrain is a small island country on the western shores of the Arabian Gulf.
As a master chief, Vargas is responsible for the development and growth of sailors. He said it was a joy to interact with the sailors, and to mentor them.
