In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield held a “Pink Power Party” breast cancer awareness event on Friday, Oct. 11, at the Anthem Community Service Center in Hunts Point.
This mini-resource fair was held to celebrate the survivors of breast cancer, as well as to stress to community members the importance of regular breast self-examinations and mammograms.
During the Pink Power Party at the Anthem Community Service Center, located at 968 Southern Blvd., mammogram screenings and breast cancer health education were provided by St. Barnabas Health for the nearly 100 attendees.

Thanks to advancements in early detection methods and support for breast cancer, the chances of survival have increased immensely. Regular checks for breast cancer are very important because if it is caught in its earliest localized stages, the five-year relative survival rate is 99%.
