U.S. Senators Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand announced more than $22 million in federal funding for Bronx projects as part of the fiscal year 2026 spending package signed into law on Tuesday.

The funding was secured through congressionally directed spending, which allows lawmakers to request federal dollars to finance community projects. The approved funding, totaling $22,371,000, will support a wide range of investments across the borough, including food distribution, affordable housing development, infrastructure repairs, and internet access.

“With tens of millions of dollars going directly to organizations across the five boroughs, I am proud to be delivering this much-needed federal funding to improve the lives of New Yorkers and to keep New York City flourishing,” said Sen. Gillibrand in a statement, who is also a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee.

The funding from the senators builds upon the $15.1 million approved for community funded projects in the 15th congressional district as the Bronx Times previously reported.

The largest allocation will bring $6 million to the Food Bank of New York City, supporting renovations at the Hunts Point and Brooklyn distribution centers. The upgrades would allow the food bank to distribute an additional 14 million pounds of food annually.

Another $5 million will go towards the NYCHA Patterson Houses to upgrade their plumbing infrastructure. The funding doubles recent federal support for the development, following a separate $5 million secured weeks earlier by U.S. Rep. Ritchie Torres to remediate mold and asbestos.

Habitat for Humanity is also set to receive $3 million for Claremont House Project, which aims to bring 65 affordable cooperative units to the Bronx and promote homeownership. The Department of Housing Preservation and Development will also receive $2 million to expand broadband access for low-income households.

Additional project funding through the package includes repairs and infrastructure investments to the Carolyn McLaughlin Community Center at BronxWorks, Moshulu-Montefiore Community Center, Fordham University, Montefiore Medical Center’s Moses Campus, and St. Barnabas Hospital.

“These funds boost vital local projects including food pantry distribution, NYCHA renovation projects, investments at St. Barnabas Hospital, and much more,” Sen. Schumer said in a statement.

“I won’t stop fighting to deliver the resources needed to support our communities and the organizations that help them flourish.”
