The sixth annual Abrazo Garifuna Banquet held last Friday, March 11 at Maestro’s Caterers saw Borough President Ruben Diaz, Jr.; Senator Ruben Diaz, Sr.; Assembly members Michael Blake, Marcos Crespo and Luis Sepulveda and recently elected Councilman Rafael Salamanca honoring the various contributions made by New York’s Garifuna American community. This year’s distinguished recipients were New York City firefighter Candido Nuñez; Sulma Arzu-Brown, New York City Hispanic Chamber of Commerce director of operations; U.S. Navy veteran Mirta Reyes; Barbara Neil Lopez, Community Board 2 member and Yasmin Ramos, producer for the ‘Wendy William Show’.
