49th Precinct makes arrest for possession of a weapon

There is one less gun on the street thanks to the efforts of the 49th Precinct, recently arresting two individuals by the Pelham Parkway Houses.

On Wednesday, August 19, police officers John Toscano and Michael Tomao pulled over a vehicle in front of 2445 Williamsbridge Road, after recognizing the driver.

Michael Williams, a 23-year-old black male residing at 935 Waring Avenue, was found in possession of a handgun. Williams had been previously arrested for a suspended license, and was recognized by police.

Before this incident, Williams had a total of eight prior arrests, including misdemeanor assault and possession of a controlled substance. Of his prior arrests, five have been since April.

Also arrested was passenger Jamel Perkins, a 21-year-old black male residing at 981 Waring Avenue. Perkins had 10 prior arrests.

“This was an excellent gun arrest. The officers were able to stop the car and retrieve the handgun,” said Captain John Greeley of the 49th Precinct.

“We are hoping this will settle down this area, these were pretty bad guys and we are happy they are off the street. The officers are doing a terrific job.”
