A brand new creative space for artists, makers and technologists is opening soon in Mott Haven.

The Bronx Kreate Hub studio, the first in the borough, will have its soft opening on Friday, November 1.

In a league of its own, the center is a quality workspace and community incubator located at 138th Street and 15 Canal Place, the former site of a 4-story warehouse building.

Bronx Kreate Hub was one of 12 transformational projects awarded strategic investments by Governor Cuomo as part of the Downtown Revitalization Initiative in July 2018.

The strategic investments are meant to connect commercial and cultural nodes within the Bronx Civic Center to create a unified downtown providing a high quality-of-life for residents and visitors.

“Historically, the Bronx is responsible for culturally significant and universally recognized artistic movements,” said Daniel Freeman, chief operations officer of Bronx Kreate Hub. “With the borough’s support, we now have created a destination and hub for a new generation of talent.”

Community members will represent a diverse array of specialities, including: animators, ceramicists, graffiti artists, sculptors, fashion designers, writers, jewelry designers, and much more.

Studio spaces—open to full-time and part-time artists, hobby artists, and technologists of all kinds—are available at an array of affordable price points, starting at $175 a month for shared studios and $450 a month for private studios.

Bronx Kreate Hub includes a publicly accessible ground-floor cafe and gallery. All community members will have access to an array of amenities, including: WiFi, central air conditioning, security cameras, mail and package reception, electric key system, gallery space, conference rooms, exhibitions and maker markets.

“Having over one hundred creatives in-house gives the residents an opportunity to collaborate, inspire, and network,” Freeman said. “Additionally, we have partnered with WallWorks, an established Bronx-based art gallery to showcase local and global artists, as well as a café that welcomes the community.”

Fostering community, Kreate Hub will work with several local organizations to drive further connections, including: Local art museums (Bronx Museum of the Arts); non-profit organizations (Bronx Council on the Arts and The POINT Community Development Corporation); communities (Mott Haven arts festival); schools (Bronx Charter School for the Arts, Bronx Academy of Letters); and government (Department of SCO Family Services to introduce students to the arts).

The center will also participate in mentorship programs benefiting local students, who will gain practical knowledge and experience in their desired fields.

Bronx Kreate Hub will celebrate its first gallery opening with Wallworks on January 4, 2020.
