Once finals are over and done with, a few Bronxdale High School students, on the Christopher Columbus Campus, are going to have some packing to do.

Thanks to the generous financial assistance from Gun Hill Brewing at 3227 Laconia Avenue, a very lucky group of students will be heading to Costa Rica this summer.

These kids won’t just be going to soak up some sunrays or tour the grounds of the original Jurassic Park, though. The Bronxdale High School students will be filming, editing and producing two separate documentaries: one about immigration in Central America, and the other on a climate change study that they will be conducting.

As part of the school’s Global Kids program, the lucky eight students, accompanied by two adults, will begin their journeyto the east coast of the nation, working their way to the nation’s capital, San Jose, from Saturday, July 21 to Thursday, August 1.

Gun Hill’s bountiful donation came about by setting aside one dollar for every beer the brewery sold over the Memorial Day weekend.

“We want to be part of the community and help the community so we’re happy to do this,” said Gun Hill’s owner Kieran Farrell when he presented the school with a check for their trip.

So far, the school has raised a total of $1,200 for the trip and is looking to add to that total.
