Request For Gently Used Glasses For Puerto Rico

Grand Concourse eye surgeon and ophthalmologist Dr. David Alevi is asking the public to donate their old pairs of glass to help people in Puerto Rico. The doctor is planning on visiting Puerto Rico in January. Once there, he will be donating money to host a luncheon.

At the luncheon, those in need will be able to chose the glasses and frames they like from what is donated.

This started up because my receptionist’s family member had cancer and the chemotherapy caused her vision to change. We sent some glasses to her and she was so thankful.

For more information on how to donate call (718) 292-2020 The doctor’s office is located at 860 Grand Concourse #1N and his website is southbronxeyes.com online.

Borough Native Serves Aboard Warship

Navy Seaman Andy Ramirez is a personnel specialist aboard the aircraft carrier USS George Washington, which is currently dry-docked in Newport News, VA.

The 2017 Discovery High School graduate and borough native is serving aboard what the U.S. Navy considers one of its most valuable warships that is capable of carrying 70 planes and 5,000 sailors.

Ramirez credits his success in the service to many of the lessons he learned growing up in the Bronx, according to the U.S. Navy.

Growing up in New York, I experienced a very fast-paced environment. Many lessons that I see new sailors learn, I’ve already gone through. I find that it’s easier for me to adapt to changes, which helps me in my career.
