Notable Passing

Charles Ferrari, formerly of Throggs Neck’s Blair Avenue, passed away at the age of 89 on Sunday, April 15 in Fort Myers Beach, FL.

He was an U.S. Army veteran who served in World War II.

He was born and raised in the borough.

He was a successful businessman and investor who most recently lived in Somers, NY and in Florida.

He was the husband of Lillian Ferrari and the father of Charles Ferrari, Barbara Moccia, James Ferrari, Joan Dragone, Catherine Ferrari and Paul Ferrari.

He was the grandfather of Charles, Joseph, Richard, Jillian, Susan, Lauren, Angela, Rebecca, Hannah, Jordan and Kailas. Donations can be sent in Charles’ memory to: Monastery of St. Clare, 6029 Estero Blvd., Fort Myers Beach, Fl. 33931-4325.

Serving Half A World Away

Chelsea Serrano, serves in the U.S. Navy as a machinists mate aboard the aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan, based out of Yokosuka, Japan.

She is a 2011 graduate of St. Raymond in Parkchester. According to the U.S. Navy, Serrano is proud to serve in the Pacific Ocean and fondly recalls memories of borough.

Veterans Services Meeting

There will be a meeting of Community Board 10’s veterans services committee at the Samuel Young American Legion Post 620 on Friday, May 4 at 7:30 p.m.

The post is located at 1530 Hutchinson River Parkway in Pelham Bay. Veterans are welcome to attend, of course, but the meeting is also for any family members who need assistance, have questions or would like to be involved.

Theater Auditions

Local celebrity theater will be hosting performances of Cry-Baby

The Musical on Friday April 27 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, April 28 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

The three performances will take place at the Our Lady of Assumption Auditorium in Pelham Bay. Tickets are $20 and can be reserved by LCT@gmail.com.

Part of the proceeds from the ticket sales will go toward funding the OLA Drama Club.
