The veteran leaders of the city’s Hispanic leadership, once known as ‘The Old Guard’ are being replaced by younger Latinos, born and raised in New York, according to Councilman Ruben Diaz Sr. That group helped better the community by advocating for things like the construction of the new Lincoln Hospital, bilingual education throughout the nation, ASPIRA, the Model Cities Student scholarship Program, The Hunts Point Multiservice Center, United Bronx Parents, The South Bronx Community Development and the Puerto Rican Day Parade.
