Over 25 community members came out in support of former 49th Precinct commanding officer deputy inspector Keith Walton as he maintained his innocence in court on Tuesday, February 7. The prosecution submitted evidence which the defendant will review until the next court date on Tuesday, March 28. Walton’s previous court date on Wednesday, December 14 had over 35 community members in attendance including clergy and uniformed officers to show their support for a NYPD commanding officer noted for holding police-community relations to a higher standard than his predecessors. As previously reported, Walton was indicted and arraigned in Bronx County Court before Supreme Court Justice Steven Barrett on three counts of first-degree sexual abuse, a Class D felony; two counts of forcible touching, a class A misdemeanor; three counts of third-degree sexual abuse, a class B misdemeanor; official misconduct, a class A misdemeanor and second-degree harassment, a violation for the alleged sexual abuse of a female officer.
