Baychester resident Lucille Nelson Richards, a retired educator in east Bronx schools, visited her old P.S. 41 classroom on Thursday, April 27.

In honor of Week of the Young Child, Councilman Andy King organized the former teacher’s third grade classmates from the school to present her with the inaugural 12th Council District Educator of Influence Award.

Richards taught kindergarten to sixth grade and communications art at P.S. 41, the school which her son graduated and daughter attended.

She retired as acting assistant principal at P.S. 160 in 1995.

Richards also spent 13 years as Bronx Learning Center’s coordinator and was a chapter leader for the United Federation of Teachers.

King will present the award annually to a northeast Bronx teacher or retired educator with significant experience who has made an impact on the local community.
