Officials were searching for answers this week on what happened to a toddler at Lil Stars Daycare in Throggs Neck who collapsed and later died.
According to the NYPD, police responded at 5:30 p.m. to a 911 call of “an unresponsive male” at 150 Prentiss Avenue.
When officers from the 45th Precinct arrived they found an unconscious and unresponsive 4-month old boy with no visible signs of trauma.
The boy has since been identified as Cameron Willingham whose family lives in Pelham Bay.
An ambulance transported Cameron to Jacobi Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
Cameron had reportedly been battling pneumonia.
At the time of this article, the NYC Medical Examiner is still investigating the cause of death.
The NYC Department of Health released a statement on Tuesday, November 15 in conjunction with the death and Lil Stars Daycare.
“We are greatly saddened by this tragedy. We inspected the site on Friday, November 11 and launched an investigation,” the statement read. “[On November 15, Lil Stars Day Care was] temporarily suspended and it will not be able to operate until the investigation concludes. We will help parents with children at this site find alternative, quality day care options for their children.”
A spokesperson from DOH added the daycare is a state-regulated facility.
The department is working with the NYS Office of Family and Children’s Services who handed down the suspension.
There were no arrests following Cameron’s death.
The spokesperson added the site will not open until “due process is completed.”
Officer John Souhrada of the 45th Precinct said he believes “any child’s death is handled with the utmost professionalism and respect and thoroughly investigated.”
The Bronx Times contacted Lil Stars Daycare but they did not provide a statement.
