Notable Passing

Thomas Maltezo, 87, formerly of Schurz Avenue in Throggs Neck, who was most recently living in Pittsburg PA, passed away on Tuesday, August 9.

He was the beloved husband of 59 years to the late Margaret Maltezo. He is survived by his son Thomas Maltezo, daughter Meg Mulkearns and sister Kathleen Amoroso, who is from Pelham Bay.

He is also survived by his grandchildren William, Nicholas, Aidan and Isabelle. Thomas was a Korean War U.S. Army veteran.

Bronxite Turns Over His U.S. Navy Command

Captain Joseph Rodriguez was relieved of his command of the Fleet Readiness Center Mid-Atlantic in a change of command ceremony on Friday, August 5 at Naval Air Station Oceana.

Rodriguez, a borough native who is an aeronautical maintenance duty officer, took command of the center in July 2014.

He leaves for his next assignment as vice commander, Fleet Readiness Centers in Patuxent River, Maryland.
