A man was fatally shot by police officers after he allegedly pointed a gun at them in the early morning hours of Sunday, June 19 near the Soundview Houses.

According to police, 43rd Precinct police officers received a Shot Spotter alert and 911 calls about a gun wielding man near the public houses. Responding officers discovered the man around 2 a.m. at 1725 Randall Avenue and demanded he drop his gun, but he instead pointed it at them. Police said that three police officera fired at least 31 shots. The man was identified as 25-year-old Rashaun Lloyd. He was rushed to Jacobi Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased. No officers were injured and a gun was recovered at the scene, police said. Law enforcement officials said Lloyd had prior arrests for robbery, criminal trespass and possession of marijuana.
