A store that sells collectables, comics and vintage toys has officially opened in Pelham Bay.

Collector Cave, located at 3027 Middletown Road, provides a nostalgic atmosphere for collectors, comic book fanatics and gamers who love taking trips down memory lane to recover blasts from the pasts, whether their passion is video games, comics or action figures.

The idea behind Collector Cave originated when two brothers from Pelham Bay, Anthony and Steven Bonano, began selling comic books and toys online.

After about two years, their good friend from the neighborhood, James Post, helped them boost their online efforts.

After another year of e-sales, they came to the conclusion that it was time to open a store where they could grow their business.

The store is a haven for collectors – from archive, silver age original comics (dating back to the 1960s) to retro, vintage action figures.

Notable action figures include Batman, Spiderman, Superman, Dare Devil, Godzilla, the Green Goblin and Wolverine, among others.

The Collector Cave gives off a rather reminiscent feeling, as the store even houses old and outdated video games and game systems, including the original Atari (from 1978), Sega Genesis, Nintendo 64, PlayStation and GameCube.

The store also includes a variety of DVDs, stuffed action figures and apparel including shirts and holiday stockings.

Since the store’s grand opening, which took place last weekend, the store has witnessed a positive reception.

“Customers have said that they love that this kind of store is located in the area,” said store manager James Post. “It’s clear that this neighborhood needs a store like this – and it’s a great feeling to accommodate people in this area who are avid collectors.”

Post also mentioned that the store has seen one five star reviews after another since its opening, including two from Yelp and one from Facebook.

He also mentioned that the store will hold video game tournaments, Pokemon tournaments and magic gatherings beginning in January 2016

“It’s exciting to see people who are just as excited as you, if not more excited, about the rare and classic items that we sell here,” said Steven Bonano, who also works as store manager with his brother Anthony as well as James.

“So far, we’ve seen customers from all age groups, and many of them have shown a true passion as collectors. We are looking forward to continuing to assist these collectors, this time in a store location.”

The store hours of the Collector Cave are from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, and from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sundays.

On Saturday, November 14 and Sunday, November 15, the Collector Cave will be present at an upcoming event of ToyConNJ, New Jersey’s largest indoor toy, comic and collectables show.

The events will take place on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Sunday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 33 Baldwin Road, Parsippany, NJ.
