The Bronx will be lending its full support to breast cancer survivors and awareness in several borough wide events.
The 21st Annual Breast Health Day on Sunday, October 3 will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at North Central Bronx Hospital’s Radiology Department located at 3424 Kossuth Avenue.
According to Luisa Hernandez, associate director of volunteer services at NCBH and Jacobi Medical Center, services will include breast health screenings, domestic violence information, breast self-examination demonstrations, free blood pressure screenings and mammograms at no out-of-pocket cost.
This women’s only event is held annually every first Saturday of October at NCBH and provides guests with a calm setting where they can socialize with others.
“This is meant to urge women over 40, with a family history of breast cancer or feel there’s something wrong to come out and get tested,” said Hernandez.
She added should people not be able to attend this Sunday, they can still participate in NCBH’s annual Mother’s Day Mammogram event in the month of May.

St. Barnabas Hospital will deploy a mobile mammography van next week throughout several locations.
The van is scheduled to visit Union Community Health Center at 260 E. 188th Street on Tuesday, October 6; Parkchester Medical Center at 1211 White Plains Road on Wednesday, October 7; HIP Center at 149th Street on Thursday, October 8; Assemblyman Victor Pichardo’s office at 2175C Jerome Avenue on Friday, October 9 and Words of Life Christian Church at 5905 Broadway on Saturday, October 10.

Senator Gustavo Rivera is co-sponsoring with SBH and Assemblyman Victor Pichardo free mammogram testing from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday, October 9 outside Bronxworks East Concourse Senior Center at 236 E. Tremont and Friday, October 23 outside the World Changers Church at 2417 Grand Concourse.

Montefiore Medical Center will play host to some breast cancer awareness specific events throughout the month of October.
Hosted by Montefiore’s Bronx Oncology Living Daily program, the Peer Navigation Appreciation Luncheon is set for Wednesday, October 7 from noon to 2 p.m. at Jarrett Place to honor male and female cancer survivors who dedicate their time to provide peer support to others.
Montefiore Einstein Center for Cancer Care, a proud participant in the American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk, will host its 8th Annual Dr. Edward S. Greenwald Breast and Cervical Screening Event on Saturday, October 24 from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.
This yearly event will be held on Montefiore Medical Center’s Einstein Campus located at 1695 Eastchester Road and includes breast exams and Pap smears for women 18 and older, mammograms for women 40 and older in addition to women’s health education and information.
“We expect at least 50 to 60 patients to be attending this screening which really reflects how important it really is,” said Dr. Rachel Wellner, assistant clinical professor for the department of surgery at Montefiore.
Co-pays will apply for participants with insurance and all exams are free for women without insurance.

The 13th Annual American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer of the Bronx Walk will make tracks Sunday, October 18 at 10 a.m. at Orchard Beach. Check-in for the walk begins at 8 a.m. at One Orchard Beach Road.
