The doctor will see you now.

Located inside the Throggs Neck Shopping Center, AFC Doctors Express Urgent Care is a nationally-recognized walk-in clinic comprised of highly trained, board-certified physicians and a team of medical professionals who provide fast, affordable quality urgent care in treating various non-life threatening illnesses and injuries with no appointment or referral necessary.

The walk-in clinic officially opened its doors in our borough last November and treats many Bronx residents and New Yorkers.

Conveniently scheduled, AFC Doctors Express is open Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. until 10 p.m. as well as Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Though it provides business seven days a week, the walk-in clinic closes in observation of the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays.

Founded in 2008, Doctors Express merged with American Family Care in 2013 to further expand its well-renowned urgent care, minor emergency treatment and occupational medicine.

Currently, this national organization has over 85 urgent care centers located throughout the country.

In 2011, the very first New York-based AFC Doctors Express opened for business in Hartsdale.

This urgent care franchise is well regarded for treating and diagnosing a wide array of minor medical concerns such as colds and the flu; asthma; allergies; pink eye; back, joint, and muscle pain; cuts, bruises, and burns; breaks and fractures as well as rashes and other skin irritations.

According to Dan Purugganan, managing director, the Throggs Neck facility averages approximately 400 patients a week.

He added that the walk-in clinic sees approximately 250 new Bronx patients weekly and it has received overwhelmingly positive reactions from the community due to its convenient location which can be reach via car or the Q44 and Q50 buses, free ample parking a few feet away from its front entrance, and its promptness in treating patients.

“Our organization is all about being convenient for our costumers while also offering them the best possible medical services with no appointment needed,” Purugganan explained.

AFC Doctors Express is best described as a hybrid between an emergency room and a primary care physician’s office and a typical visit generally lasts either 45 minutes or a hour.

This walk-in clinic includes a digital x-ray and full lab providing comprehensive diagnosis of multitudes of non-life threatening illnesses and medical conditions and can test for such medical issues as STDs, strep throat, mono, hepatitis, the flu, TB, drugs and alcohol, glucose levels and pregnancy among many others.

“I’ve been living in the Bronx all of my life and being able to relate to my patients here helps establish a much stronger relationship between us,” Dr. Michael Tugetman, medical director expressed. “We have a really beautiful state-of-the-art facility here to better serve the entire Bronx community and provide our patients with everything they need, when they need it.”

Dr. Tugetman, a Riverdale resident, expressed his excitement about working in his home borough to provide residents with the quality healthcare they require as well as working alongside fellow board-certified family practice physicians Dr. Jennifer Garcia, D.O, and Dr. Christi Gandham, D.O.
