The Bartow-Pell Maniosn Museum, 895 Shore Road, Pelham Bay Park, presents First Fridays!
Friday, December 4, 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.: Experience the magic of the mansion at night—by candlelight—decorated for the holidays. Christmas trees inspired by the Nutcracker adorn rooms throughout the mansion. Tours by costumed docents highlight 19th-century holiday traditions. Do a little shopping at the Holiday Boutique and enjoy music by a Seven Sisters Colleges a cappella group, the Metropolitones. Refreshments served. The Bronx Seaside Trolley makes a loop from Pelham Bay Park #6 subway station to Bartow-Pell to City Island. Admission $10 adults, $7 seniors and children 6-17. Registration requested. Saturday, December 5, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.: Annual Winter Family Day: Puppet shows 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Wagon rides noon to2 p.m. Photos with Santa 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Holiday spirit abounds during this fun-filled day. Children delight in puppet shows by Goat on a Boat Puppet Theater, horse-drawn wagon rides, photographs with Santa Claus (additional fee), a holiday boutique, and more. Saturday, December 12, and Sunday, December 13, 1 and 3 p.m.: Music for St. Nicholas: The Bronx Arts Ensemble and Singers present a holiday concert with music for St. Nicholas. Four performances. NYC replicas line NYBG train route
Along the train routes of the annual Holiday Train Show at The New York Botanical Garden are dozens of replicas of skyscrapers, museums, mansions, brownstones, bridges, ballparks, and other famous New York structures. All have been meticulously handcrafted of leaves, twigs, bark, berries, pods, pine cones, and other plant materials by Paul Busse and his team at Applied Imagination in Alexandria, Kentucky.
Each botanically-interpreted version of these historic landmarks takes many months to research, design, and craft. More than 100 of the replicas in the Garden’s collection, which has grown significantly in the 18 years since the first exhibition, will be on display in the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory.
New to this year’s Holiday Train Show are a reincarnation of the original Pennsylvania Station (1910 – 1964) and a rendition of the iconic Madison Avenue Brooks Brothers flagship. Some of the natural building blocks used to construct these “green” additions to the show are indicated in italics here.
