New York State Senator Gustavo Rivera held a backpack giveaway and resource fair for Bronx residents on Thursday, Aug. 14, at St. James Park, located at 2550 Jerome Ave.

More than 600 backpacks were given out to local kids at the event. Attendees also had the opportunity to visit one of the several tables on hand run by local community organizations to receive information, resources and other services.

Democratic Mayoral nominee Zohran Mamdani was present at the backpack giveaway and resource fair, helping to distribute backpacks to the kids there.


Among the organizations that collaborated with Rivera to put this backpack giveaway and resource fair together were Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Fidelis Care, Monroe University, MetroPlusHealth, BronxCare Health System, From the Bronx, NYC Parks, the Bronx Zoo, the Hispanic Federation, R.A.I.N. Total Care, Broadway Stages, the Kingsbridge-Riverdale-Van Cortlandt Development Corporation (KRVC), the Union Community Health Center, Essen Health Care, Kars4Kids, the Riverdale Y, S&A Unified Home Care, EmblemHealth, El Grupo Unidos, Liberty Dental Plan, Literacy in Community, SBH Health System and VIP Community Services.
