Morrisania Diagnostic and Treatment Center recently cut a ribbon on a half million dollars worth of improvements to redesigned adult and pediatric suites.
The new suites, located on the second floor of the Health and Hospitals Corporation facility at 1225 Gerard Avenue, includes a new triage room, two asthma treatment rooms, an attractive reception area and a play area for the kids, and has been reconfigured to decrease waiting time for “one-stop services” such as financial counseling, nutrition, and social work.
The 3,200 square-foot redesign includes a new reading room and play area, and this should help kids find the experience of going to the doctor less stressful, said center administrator Dinah Surh.
“Especially for children, going to the doctor is not always a fun thing to do particularly when they are sick or need immunizations,” Surh said. “We offer our pediatric patients a welcoming and fun experience with a new children’s play area with a nautical theme and with colorful tables and seating. We have also built new children’s reading area where we will have volunteers read books to children while they are waiting for their appointments.”
The Adult Medicine Suite boasts a conference room and two patient education rooms for health education and group meetings.
The project was funded by a $494,000 New York State grant under the Healthcare Efficiently and Affordability Law.
“These physical improvements will help us support our enriched, coordinated health care delivery and practices aimed at improving our efforts at disease prevention and treatment to obtain the best possible health outcomes,” said network senior vice president Iris Jimenez-Hernandez. “Having been recognized by the National Committee for Quality Assurance as a patient-centered medical home speaks of our commitment to providing personalized, customer friendly quality care to those who have chosen Morrisania Diagnostic and Treatment Center for their medical needs.”
The facility is expected to handle approximately 50,000 patient visits annually.
