Whether someone sustains an injury during a championship soccer match, or from a casual jog, the sports medicine team at Montefiore, now with the addition of two more specialists, can help.
Joining the team of three current sports medicine specialists is Dr. Derek Ho and Dr. Abir Naguib, who bring their expertise in a breadth of musculoskeletal problems to enhance care for patients throughout the region. The newly expanded team now provides care at multiple sites in the Bronx, including the Montefiore Moses and Wakefield campuses and the Hutchinson Metro Center, and at the newest Westchester location — Montefiore Einstein Advanced Care in Elmsford, as well as the existing location in White Plains.
The doctors treat a range of ailments, from tennis elbow to acute sports related injuries and concussions. The team of rehabilitation medicine physicians, physical therapists, occupational therapists and exercise physiologists, create a tailored plan that can include ultrasound-guided pain management injections, Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) treatments that use the patient’s own blood cells to quicken recovery, and sophisticated physical therapy techniques. Expanding the number of physicians and locations allows patients have better access to care closer to home.
The sports medicine specialists work closely with occupational therapists, physical therapists, exercise physiologists, sports psychologists and clinical nutritionists, as well as orthopaedic surgeons, primary care physicians and experts in their Human Performance Laboratory to ensure a comprehensive approach to care.
