On Thursday, March 12, Montefiore Health System hosted a visit by Sylvia M. Burwell, secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services; Courtney Burke, New York State Deputy Secretary for Health; and Jason Helgerson, State Medicaid director. The event was hosted by Montefiore president Steven M. Safyer, M.D., at Montefiore Medical Group’s East site and noted Montefiore as being a national leader in value-based care for two decades. Safyer applauded Secretary Burwell’s commitment to transfer 90% of Medicare reimbursements toward value-based systems by 2018 and specifically 50% of payments in alternative payment models by 2018.
He also congratulated NYS for guiding Medicaid reimbursements in a similar fashion as well as announcing MHS has established a goal of 100% value-based payments from Medicare and Medicaid by 2018.
