Police have made an arrest in the recent fatal hit and run of an 82-year-old woman.
According to police, Alcyto Powell, 50, was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of an accident and failure to report an accident after he surrendered to police on Saturday, October 7 at 5 a.m.
On Friday, October 6 at 9:11 p.m., Hilda Arocho was struck by Powell driving a white Dodge cargo van as she attempted to cross Pitman Avenue midblock, just a few steps from her home.
Arocho was rushed to Jacobi Hospital where she was pronounced deceased.
