Three of the major projects for which Koppell has allocated Council funds are the construction of a modern, state-of-the art playground at PS 81, the expansion of facilities at Riverdale Neighborhood House and the restoration of the Henry Hudson Monument.
In addition, the following schools will receive new technology equipment through Koppell funding: Bronx Engineering & Technology Academy (BETA) – laptop carts; Bronx Theatre High School – laptop computers; Kingsbridge International High School -desktop computers for classrooms ; Lehman College, Department of Speech – lab equipment for use with autistic children; MS/HS 368 – laptop carts; MS 80 – desktop computers and printers for the computer lab; PS/MS 20 – laptop computers and projectors; MS/HS 141- desktop computers and printers for the computer lab; PS 24 – smart boards; PS 7 – laptop carts & smart boards; and PS 8 – computer technology for the library.
Koppell also allocated funds to the Bronx High School of Science and to the Walton High School Campus to upgrade their auditoriums, to the Bronx High School of Law and Finance to convert a classroom into a mock courtroom, and to MS/HS 141 and The Walton High School Campus for new gym lockers.
The Parks Department obtained monies from Koppell for several projects. The commemoration of the 400th anniversary of Henry Hudson’s exploration of the Hudson River will be enhanced by a newly restored Henry Hudson Monument because of funding by Koppell. He also provided funds for the rehabilitation of Memorial Grove in Van Cortlandt Park, and improvements to Williamsbridge Oval Park and Dog Run.
