JMC, NCBH to host blood drive

In an effort to support the New York Blood Center and restore our community blood supply, Jacobi Medical Center and North Central Bronx Hospital (NCBH) are urging our friends and neighbors to donate blood at either of two blood drives in the upcoming weeks. The first blood drive will be held on January 22 at NCBH, 3424 Kossuth Avenue, from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The second will be held on February 19 at Jacobi Medical Center, 1400 Pelham Parkway South, Building #4, in the penthouse from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Supplies of many blood types are now at the critical three-day level, with distribution restrictions placed on Type O, Rh negative blood. Although blood is traditionally in short supply during the winter months, January, in particular, is a difficult month for blood centers to collect blood donations.

Eligible donors include those people at least age 16 with parental consent, who weigh a minimum of 110 pounds, are in good health and meet all Food & Drug Administration and NY State Department of Health donor criteria. People over 75 may donate with a doctor’s note. If you have eligibility questions call (800) 933-2566. To schedule an appointment call (718) 918-3379.
