A multi-vehicle crash on the Hutchinson River Parkway early Saturday morning claimed the life of a 45-year-old woman and left several others injured, police said.

The collision occurred at approximately 4:09 a.m. on Dec. 21, 2024, when officers from the NYPD responded to a 911 call reporting an accident near the northbound lanes of the parkway within the confines of the 45th Precinct.

According to the NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad, a 40-year-old man was driving a 2004 silver Hyundai Elantra northbound on the parkway when he lost control of the vehicle and struck the guardrail. The impact triggered a chain-reaction collision involving nine other vehicles.

The driver of the Hyundai was transported to NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi in stable condition. His passenger, identified as Katherine Cox, 45, of New Haven, Connecticut, was critically injured and later pronounced dead at Jacobi Hospital.

Six others involved in the crash sustained minor injuries and were taken to local hospitals, where they were reported to be in stable condition.

No arrests have been made, and the NYPD’s investigation into the circumstances of the crash remains ongoing.
