Fundraisers for Japan are occurring throughout the world, and the Bronx is providing a good share of its own support.
The Bronx Underground, a successful concert group that began in the borough 10 years ago, created a Facebook page and Twitter account to help promote the organization’s events.
The Bronx Underground also encourages Bronx teens to pitch their ideas for parties with specific themes.
In light of the natural disasters in Japan, an unnamed Bronx teen suggested a Japan-themed party that could also work as a fundraiser, setting the stage for the “Tokyo Nights Dance Party” this Friday, April 8, at The First Lutheran Church of Throggs Neck on 3075 Baisley Avenue.
The admission fee for the Tokyo Nights Dance Party will be $10 per person and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the American Red Cross to aid Japan.
The room will be decorated with Japanese designs and will feature live bands Love Via Dance Machine and Dress2Impress, as well as DJ Tim Tim Underground, DJ Rambunctious and DJ Mike, all playing electro, indie, ‘j-pop,’ dance, and rock music that is popular in Japan.
Many vendors will be present such as jewelry and accessory stands courtesy of Love Tokyo, as well as Land of Cake Believe, a Bronx-based customized cake and cupcake company, that will be baking some delicious treats inspired by the Japanese culture.
There will also be special guest performances, fashion contests and numerous raffles and prizes.
The “Tokyo Nights Dance Party” will begin at 5:30 p.m., and guests of all ages are welcomed.
