On March 14, the Learning Exchange project for the Justice First Fellowship, which is run through the Legal Education Foundation in the United Kingdom, visited the Bronx’s new Legal Hand location at 3213 Third Ave.

Also present were Ignacio Jaureguilorda, project director at the Center for Justice Innovation; James Coger, manager of Legal Hand Bronx; and Andrianelys Parra, program associate at Legal Hand Bronx and Legal Hand Volunteers.

Topics included access to counsel, Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) model, a housing resource guide and more. There was also a conversation where attendees spoke on the benefits and concerns of getting all social service organizations under one umbrella. One of these concerns was access to personal information concerning immigration.

“At Legal Hand, our trained community volunteers provide free legal information, assistance and referrals to help you resolve issues that affect your life in areas like housing, family, consumer debt, immigration, divorce, domestic violence, public benefits, employment and more,” according to a statement from Legal Hand. “And Legal Hand tries to prevent problems from turning into legal actions.”
