Serviceman Honored

U.S. Navy Chief Damage Controlman Alberto Rodgriguez, a Bronxite attached to a U.S. Naval Air Facility Misawa in Misawa, Japan, received a medal for service on Thursday, December 17.

Rodriguez received the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal from Capt. Keith Henry, commanding officer NAFM.

He had contributing 900 hours of community service during his tour.

Notable Passing

Spero Dourdounas, 100, a resident of the borough for most of his life, passed away on Wednesday, August 12.

Born in Preveza, Greece, he came to the United States in 1919 and lived here for decades.

He served in the United States Navy during and immediately following World War II, in 1945 and 1946. He worked as a salesman for a major florist, A. Sauter and Company, for almost five decades.

Collects For Toy Drive

Patrons of the Throggs Neck Clipper, 3599 E. Tremont Avenue, took part in the Theodore Korony American Legion Post #253’s annual Joseph Mazzariello Memorial Toy Drive for local shelters. Four bags of large toys donated by staff and customers were collected from a bin and were picked up by drive coordinators.
