Dogs of all ages, colors, shapes and sizes are invited to bring their owners and meet other dogs at the American Cancer Society’s 18th Annual Dogswalk Against Cancer on Sunday, May 3, in Riverside Park at W. 108th Street. Take a stroll around Riverside Park with hundreds of dogs and their owners and enjoy the beauty of the city.
The Dogswalk Against Cancer is a non-competitive walk-a-thon and festival for hundreds of New York City dogs and their families. The sponsors of this year’s walk are Fifth Avenue Veterinary Specialists, amNY, Camp Bow Wow, Modern Dog Magazine, and Fido Friendly Magazine. The money raised by the participants in Dogswalk supports the programs of the American Cancer Society as well as the programs of the Donaldson-Atwood Cancer Clinic at the Animal Medical Center in New York City.
“This is a great way for dogs – and their owners – to spend the day in a beautiful natural setting, with other dog lovers, walking for a great cause,” said Maureen Fitzgerald, regional vice president of the American Cancer Society. “Last year we raised more than $180,000 and more than 2,000 dogs and humans joined in the fun to raise money for the American Cancer Society’s research, education, advocacy and local patient service programs.”
The walk begins at 10 a.m. There will also be contests such as My Dog is Cuter than Your Dog, Best Costume, and the Doggie Olympics. Various fun activities are scheduled from 10 a.m. until noon, and vendors will be on site. Participants are welcome to remain after the event to enjoy the beauty of Riverside Park.
Registration is $50 and includes a contest entry, a raffle entry, and a Doggy Bag full of goodies. Register on-line at www.cancer.org/nydogswalk [click Riverside Park for the New York City dogswalk]. You can also register by mailing or faxing the registration form in the Dogswalk brochure to (212) 237-3842.
Day-of registration will take place at the Registration tent, located at Riverside Park at W 108th Street between 9 and 10 a.m. on May 3, rain or shine.
