Councilman Diaz, Religious Leaders Protest Parkchester Shelter
Residents of all ages had a chance to voice their opinions during the rally.
Councilman Ruben Diaz, Sr. and local religious leaders joined residents for a rally in opposition to a proposed single mens shelter at 2008 Westchester Avenue on Thursday, April 25. The proposed 165-men looking-for-work shelter will be located in close proximity of two schools and a library. The operator of the proposed shelter would be Samaritan Village.
Residents stood in solidarity against the proposed single male shelter in Parkchester.
Baitul Maamur Jame Masjid Mosque leaders denounced the proposed shelter during the rally.
Many protesters attended the rally in front of 2008 Westchester Avenue.
Some protesters held up flyers in opposition to the proposed shelter.
Councilman Diaz (2nd row, c) and Mohammed Mujumder (2nd row, r), Bangladeshi American Community Council president joined others at the rally.
