Birth Announcement

Congratulations to my daughter Juliana and son-in-law Nicholas on their newest addition to the Barra family: Olivia Ann.

Also special congratulations to Olivia’s big brother Sam and big sister Adriana who love her so much.

God bless you Oliva and keep you safe always.

Love from all your grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Carol Shimansky

Olivia Ann was born on Saturday, June 2. She weighed eight pounds and one ounce, and measured 20 inches.

106-Years Young

Over 100 friends and relatives were expected to be on hand for the 106th birthday celebration of Louise Jean Signore at JASA’s Bartow Center in Co-op City on Tuesday, July 31.

Signore was born in Manhattan in 1912 and moved to our borough in 1926 where she has remained ever since.

In the 1940s she loved to go out dancing most every weekend at clubs like Roseland and the Essex Ballroom.

For several decades, through the mid-1990s, she would head to Orchard Beach many mornings for a swim.

She has traveled extensively, and, while in Florida, was even enlisted to play on an award-winning bocce team. Today, Signore participates in activities at her local senior center.

She worked for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority for 34 years and retired in 1997.

She was one of four siblings, three of whom are still alive today, including her baby sister who turned 101-years-old in March.

New board appointments

Bonnie Porzio, general counsel of Hunts Point-based Triumph Construction Corporation, has been elected and re-elected to two boards of director positions.

She was elected to Pet Peeves, which is a non-profit organization focusing on animal shelters and rescue groups and was re-elected to the board of directors of Girl Scouts of Nassau County.

Whether in her role as general counsel at Triumph or her work on behalf of area nonprofits, Bonnie is a dedicated professional who consistently makes a positive difference, said Carlo Cuzzi, Triumph Construction founder and president.
