A locally owned and family-managed bank is celebrating three decades in business.

Country Bank, one of a handful of family controlled banks operating in the New York City area, is celebrating its 30th anniversary with a new marketing campaign and customer appreciation events at its Woodlawn and Riverdale branches.

Country will be holding appreciation events at all of its five branches, with the first 30th Anniversary Community Appreciation Celebration taking place at its first branch at 4349 Katonah Avenue on Saturday, April 7 from 1 to 3 p.m.

The event, held in partnership with the Bronx Chamber of Commerce, will include food, refreshments and an anniversary ribbon cutting, said Carolyn Murphy, vice-president and chief marketing officer.

“It is really saying thank you to the community for banking with us and to businesses for banking with us,” she said about the planned events.

“From the very beginning our family has wanted to give back in a meaningful way and we definitely attribute our strong and expansive community connections to our continued success over the past 30 years,” said Joe Murphy Jr., Country Bank CEO.

Carolyn Murphy added that the bank’s success is based on the community that surrounds it, with Joe Murphy commenting that ‘community’ transcends physical boundaries, and includes the bank’s close ties to the Irish-American community and commercial real estate investors.

Being a family-owned bank gives Country Bank the opportunity to be more responsive.

“It gives us more flexibility in matching our banking services and solutions to our customers needs,” said Joe Murphy, Jr.

At Country Bank, customers who call will get an actual person who answers the phones, said the CEO.

“You call a branch and you get a banker,” he said.

The organization was founded in Carmel, NY in 1988, with Joe’s father, Joseph Murphy, who is currently the bank’s chairman, joining Country’s board of directors around when it was founded.

“Throughout the three decades that Country Bank has been existence, the core mission of the organization has remained the same – to be a community bank in every sense,” stated Joseph Murphy.

The elder Murphy’s strong background in investment real estate in Westchester and New York City led bank to the borough, where it remains a ‘city bank with country values’.

As part of its anniversary, the bank is embarking on a new marketing campaign called ‘Here You Are Family’ that is inspired by the personal relationships the bank has developed, said Carolyn Murphy.

Country also has a new website address, CountryBankNY.com and is currently working on improving web navigation and enhancing online banking.

The organization continues its philanthropic activities, including giving back to Joseph’s and Carolyn’s alma matter Iona College, and supporting Burke Rehabilitation Hospital, which will present the bank with an award in June recognizing its ongoing support.

Country Bank’s branches currently has a staff of 60 employees with more than $675 million in assets and over $60 million in capital, according to the organization.
