A man is recovering after jumping from the Bruckner Expressway while handcuffed last Thursday.

According to police, Kevin Nivar, 24, is listed in critical, but stable condition at Jacobi Medical Center after jumping off the bridge during a traffic stop.

Nivar and his five passengers were pulled over by a state trooper on Thursday, September 21 at 5 p.m. for improper display of license plate and illegal window tinting.

Investigators discovered Nivar in possession of oxycodone pills and placed him under arrest.

Police said a handcuffed Nivar intentionally jumped over the concrete barriers plummeting approximately 20 feet from the elevated expressway.

Nivar and his passengers Jose Madera, 33, and Xavier Santana, 27, were charged with criminal possession of a firearm after a loaded semi-automatic handgun was uncovered in the car’s engine compartment.
