Hunts Point Fire Displaces 10 Familes

Firefighters responded to a four-alarm fire inside the 5-story, 20-unit apartment building on 860 Hunts Point Avenue on Tuesday, July 4 at 1:10 p.m.

Ten people, including four civilians and six firefighters, suffered non-life threatening injuries from the blaze.

Of the approximately 12 units damaged, five were destroyed.

The entire building was vacated for the night.

American Red Cross volunteers were on the scene to provide temporary housing for ten families consisting of 29 adults and nine children.

The Red Cross also provided the displaced families with emergency funds for basic necessities and invited them to meet with caseworkers for additional assistance.

The fire’s cause remains under investigation.
