Automotive group donates baseballs to little league

An auto dealership recently held a contest that benefitted a local little league.

Last week, LaSorsa Automotive Group, located at 3510 Webster Avenue, sponsored a promotion for customers who test drove one of its vehicles during the month of April.

Not only were these customers eligible to win a great prize, but the local little league also benefited.

The contest challenged each customer to guess the number of MLB official baseballs displayed in the trunk of a 2016 Chevy.

The person who came closest number to the correct number, would win a 42” flat screen LG TV as well as four tickets to a New York Yankees game.

A great idea – but what do you do with the leftover baseballs?

LaSorsa, which operates Buick, Mitsubishi and Chevrolet dealerships, the latter of which sponsors a Kingsbridge Little League team, decided to donate the 220 baseballs to the league.

“We wanted to find a way to excite customers while giving back to the community,” said Mike Sassano, general manager of LaSorsa, who threw out the first pitch at Kingsbridge Little League’s opening ceremonies.

“Equipment expenses for little leagues is always an issue, and considering the fact that the contest winner also bought a new Silverado, this was a win-win for everybody – for our company, for the contest winner and, of course, the Kingsbridge Little League.”

LaSorsa Automotive Group, which has served the Bronx for over a quarter of a century was present at the league’s parade and opening ceremonies on Saturday, April 30 on Conrad Grauer Field, where costumed characters Lois Price, Max Service and Manny Selection were on hand to donate the baseballs.

The parade started at Visitation Church and included a marching band, dancers and music as the players marched through the neighborhood.

“This was our first time doing something like this – and it was a great experience to collaborate with a local little league that has boosted a few baseball players to the minor leagues and even the MLB and has been a prominent non-profit organization in this community for many years,” Sassano added.

“LaSorsa has been a sponsor of ours for five years – and their annual donations are truly appreciated,” said Kingsbridge Little League president Chris Navarro, who said that La Sorsa has donated $500 to the organization each year.

“Them being present at the parade and at the opening ceremonies showed they really care about these kids, this organization and the community,” he said.
