Cardinal Spellman High School dedicated its baseball field to the memory of former coach Frederick W. ‘Fritz’ Calaicone who passed away last year at age 81. Bronx-bred, Calaicone played in the minor leagues for the New York Yankees and the Chicago Cubs, served as a firefighter from 1964 to 1984 and later became the fire commissioner for the Greenburgh Fire Department, before coaching baseball and football at Spellman from 1968 to 1980.

Jennifer Rivera, Cardinal Spellman High School vice president of advancement, holds a photo of the late coach Frederick ‘Fritz’ Calaicone.
