Bronx baseball highlights

Kennedy 3 – Walton 1: Rebounding from a loss earlier in the week to Monroe, the Kennedy Knights (10-1), with RBIs from Curtis Lopez, Roberto Cabral and Samuel Dominguez, picked up an important home win on Friday, May 2, to remain ½ game behind the undefeated Lehman Lions (10-0) in the Bronx A West.  Bennie Fair (5 IP, 5 H, 1 R) got the win and Yoel Peralta allowed only 1 hit over 2 innings to pick up the save.  Walton drops to 8-3 on the season and into a second place tie with Clinton in the Bronx A East. 

Lehman 11 – Bronx Science 0: In front of a home crowd on Wednesday, April 30, the Lions dominated the Wolverines (1-9) to maintain its lead over Kennedy.  Jose Rivera (2-for-4, 2 R, 2 RBI’s) hit a home run in the win, with Jeffrey Adames (2-for-3, 2 R, 1 RBI, 1 2B) and Jhosse Estrella (2-for-4, 2 R, 1 2B) also supplying strong offense.  Yevgeniy Gordiyenko (4 IP, 2 H, 3 K’s) picked up the victory from the mound. 

South Bronx 7 – Stevenson 0: In front of a home crowd on April 30, Christopher Bermudez (2-for-2, 1 RBI, 3 SB) and Braulio Torres (5 IP, 4 H, 8 K’s) led South Bronx (4-5) to a much-needed victory as Stevenson falls to 1-8. 

Morris 10 – Truman 0: Morris High School (11-0) maintains its hold over the Bronx B Division with a strong win over the  tough 4th place Truman Mustangs (7-2).  Steve Marquez (3-for-3, 2 R, 4 RBI’s) proved to be the big story of the day, belting 2 home runs while Idaury Peralto allowed only 3 hits over 5 innings and struck out 8 in the victory. 

Moore Catholic 3 – St. Raymond’s 1: Hans Arias, of the Ravens, and Ed Medina, of Moore Catholic, had a pitcher’s duel going on into the 6th inning when Mike Carletti ripped a single to score in a run and give Moore Catholic a 1-0 lead.  Joe Harten (sac fly) and Tommy Todero (single) also batted in runs for Moore Catholic (9-0) in the victory.  Medina held the Ravens hitless until Louis Castilla hit a double in the top of the 6th inning just over the glove of the first baseman inside the right field line.  Xavier Bonilla hit a double, stole third and scored on a ground out for St. Raymond’s only run of the game.
