The nonprofits BCA Global and the Impact Hub partnered to host a roundtable meant to address the impact of food systems on New York City communities, including in food deserts like the Bronx, on Thursday, Oct. 23, at 244 Madison Ave. in Manhattan.
This roundtable, titled “Health of People and Planet,” was primarily aimed at providing useful information on how New York City residents can ensure easy and affordable access to healthy and nutritious food.
BCA Global President and CEO Alex Askew and Impact Hub New York Metropolitan Area Co-founder and CEO JP Parmigiani moderated the event. They both discussed how they and their nonprofits have worked to positively impact food systems in the Bronx, the rest of New York City and beyond.
Among the panelists for the roundtable were Agritecture Founder and CEO Henry Gordon Smith, food systems professional Isaac Carroo, Collective Fare and Collective Food Works Inc. Founder and CEO Latoya Meaders and sustainable agriculture professional and food systems innovator Maggie Burke.

The panelists also answered questions from the audience related to how communities are impacted by food systems.

In addition to listening in on the panel, attendees also got to enjoy healthy treats and drinks.

The roundtable, which was available in person and online, was made possible thanks in part to support from Blue Stripes, Fabalish, Precycle, Kate’s Real Food and Norwegian Baked.
