The Bronx Times Reporter is proud to present this year’s class of 25 Bronx Influential Women.

Each year, the newspaper honors a group of extraordinary women who work hard to make the Bronx a better place.

The newspaper’s tradition was started in 2010 by Bronx Times co-founder and current editor John Collazzi, along with publisher Laura Guerriero.

When deciding who to honor, the primary qualification is that the women go above and beyond their job description to affect change in the borough, said Guerriero.

The women that are chosen are leaders and role models, and they deserve to be celebrated for the work they do.

Guerriero said the way they each give back to the community inspires her.

“People like this are what make the Bronx a special place,” she said.

The influential women are chosen by the annual planning committee, made up of Rosemary DeLuca of the Wildlife Conservation Society, Elizabeth Figueroa of the The New York Botanical Garden, Geri Sciortino of Bronx Design Group, Lisa Sorin of the Westchester Square Business Improvement District, and Anna Vincenty, retired community liaison of the Office of Congressman Jose Serrano.

This year’s group of influential women include doctors, educators, judges and community activists, among others.

Their experiences vary greatly, but they are united in their commitment to improving the community of the Bronx in ways small and large.

The women will be honored at an awards gala at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, June 30 at Scavello’s on the Island. Tickets can be purchased by calling (718) 260-4595.

Readers are invited to nominate women for the award in 2016 by contacting the Bronx Times Reporter.
