Man arrested in Co-op City woman’s death

A man is clinging to life after cutting his own wrists and drinking rat poison after allegedly stabbing his wife to death.

The 45th Precinct and Co-op City Public Safety were called to the scene of a gruesome murder and suicide attempt at 100 Carver Loop on Saturday, July 30 at 1 a.m.

It appears to be adomestic dispute turned deadly, police said.

Jose Tayo allegedly stabbed his wife, Luz Perala. Perala was found with wounds to her chest.

Tayo has been arrested, but is still in Jacobi Hospital.

“We believe that he stabbed his wife, cut his wrist, and drank some rat poison,” said Captain Russell Green of the 45th Precinct.

As of press time, the charges against Tayo have not been released because he has yet to be arraigned, according to the Bronx District Attorney’s office. He was arrested at the hospital on Monday, July 4.
