Borough President Ruben Diaz, Jr. honored two Bronx heroes for their efforts to save a five-year-old girl who was tragically dragged in front of an oncoming IRT train by her suicidal father last week. Average citizens, Jairo Torres (l) and Antonyo Love (r), teamed up on Monday, September 23 to rescue young Ferni Balbuena from beneath a subway car at the Kingsbridge Road station after the incident. Torres and Love jumped onto the tracks to assist in Ferni’s heroic rescue just moments later. The little girl was ultimately able to crawl out from under the subway car and was reunited with her mother later that day. Although she suffered minor injuries, the little girl is expected to make a full recovery. Her father died at the scene. Councilman Fernando Cabrera also honored the duo for their spontaneous heroic act.
