The NCAA basketball tournament isn’t the only March Madness competition going on this month.
Brookfield Place of Manhattan hosted its own weeks-long tournament, this one of beer.
The event, dubbed the Best Brews of New York, showcased 15 breweries across the the state including the five boroughs and naturally, The Bronx Brewery made the cut.
Beer drinkers fortunate enough to be in Brookfield Place for the Thursday night competitions that ran from February 21 to March 14 had the opportunity to sample and cast a ballot on which brews were best from the Empire State.
Similar to the World Cup, each week during the competition, five of the selected breweries went head to head in a challenge that produced one winner, with each of the winners moving on to the finals slated for Thursday, March 14.
Another Bronx-based beer brewer, Gun Hill Brewing, was also in the competition but was eliminated during the first round.
Divided up by region, the Bronx Brewery’s first group of challengers came from Brooklyn Brewery, Manhattan’s Alphabet City Brewing Company, Queens’ Rockaway Brewing Company and Staten Island’s Kills Boro Brewing Company on Thursday, March 7.
Needless to say, the Bronx Brewery swept past its competitors to claim a slot in the finals.
Despite an excellent showing, The Bronx Brewery fell short in the final round to Barrier Brewing Co. of Long Island’s south shore.
Regardless, plenty of New Yorkers got to experience the crispy taste of The Bronx Brewery’s ‘Well Earned’ Northeast IPA for the first time and what probably won’t be their last time.
