Mott Haven Fire Displaces Families

Firefighters responded to a 3-alarm fire at 570 St. Mary’s Street on Monday, January 22 at 8 p.m. in Mott Haven.

According to the FDNY, a stove fire reached into the building’s cockloft as firefighters arrived on the scene.

Over 100 firefighters responded to the scene and successfully extinguished the blaze by 10 p.m.

The building’s top floor sustained extensive damage and three firefighters suffered minor injuries.

Tenants were able to escape their building unscathed, but the blaze displaced 32 adults and 16 children.

The American Red Cross is providing assistance to these displaced families.
