The Bronx Music Heritage Center hosted a special screening of ‘Nana Dijo: Irresolute Radiography of Black Consciousness’, a vivid collection of narratives depicting the black experience on Friday, February 17 at the BMHC Laboratory. Following the film, guests were treated to a Q&A and spoken word performance by director Bocafloja and serenaded by music from the Irka Mateo Folk Quartet showcasing the figure of the ‘Palenquera’, the maroon black women of the Caribbean whose work and dedication contributed to the abolition of slavery.
