More than 30 animals were rescued from a Williamsbridge pet shelter on May 1 after the ASPCA and the Bronx District Attorney’s office executed a raid in response to multiple reports of animal neglect and mistreatment, the ASPCA announced.
Dogs, rabbits and cats, including young kittens, were removed from Pet Life (P3T LIF3) at 980 East Gun Hill Road following the execution of a search warrant after authorities received multiple reports of animals living in poor conditions, according to a statement from the ASPCA. The animals were taken for medical and behavioral care, and the organization is now assisting the DA’s investigation.
The shelter did not respond to request for comment, and the Bronx DA’s office deferred to the ASPCA.
Pet Life—which operates a pet supply store, grooming service, and animal shelter, according to its website—was one of only four licensed shelters for adoptable animals in the Bronx, with a state Department of Agriculture and Markets license valid through March 2026.
A search of 311 complaints open or closed within the past five days shows 83 complaints between May 2023 and May 2025, including one from May 5, after the shelter was raided, which was closed. The complaints pertain to odor, animal abuse, unsanitary conditions and lack of permit.
