Police arrested a 37-year-old Mott Haven man on Wednesday for allegedly shoving a 70-year-old woman into a wall at a Manhattan transit hub earlier this week.

Sherlock Arana was taken into custody just before 7 a.m. on May 14 in the 13th Precinct, two days after the unprovoked attack occurred inside a subway passage near Lexington Avenue and East 53rd Street in Midtown Manhattan.

According to investigators, Arana approached the woman without warning around 8:30 a.m. on May 12 and violently pushed her into a wall while she walked toward the 6 train. The force of the blow caused her to hit her head and fall to the ground.

Officers from the 19th Precinct and Transit District 4 responded to the scene, and EMS transported the victim to NYU Langone Medical Center with head and neck injuries.

The NYPD released surveillance photos and a description of the suspect on Tuesday, which likely led to Arana’s arrest the following day.

He is charged with second-degree assault and second-degree harassment.
