Two new deans have been named at Lehman College: Lehman History Professor Dr. Timothy Alborn will become the new dean of Arts and Humanities and Dr. Edward L. Jarroll, a biologist and associate dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Northeastern University, will become dean of Natural and Social Sciences. Both appointments were approved by the CUNY Board of Trustees and are effective July 1.

Dr. Alborn, whose academic interests include British history and the history of imperialism, science and business, joined the Lehman faculty in 1999 as an assistant professor. Prior to that, he taught at Harvard University, and he currently holds a faculty appointment at the CUNY Graduate Center. The author of Conceiving Companies: Joint-Stock Politics in Victorian England, Dr. Alborn also has written several book chapters as well as articles that have appeared in Victorian Studies, Journal of Modern History, History of Science, Journal of Victorian Culture and other scholarly publications.

Dr. Jarroll has been a member of the biology faculty at Northeastern since 1996 and also has held other leadership roles there, including director of the Graduate School and chair of the Department of Biology. His non-academic appointments include work as a consulting biologist for Viromed Labs, Premier Medical Technology and other firms. Dr. Jarroll has received many grants for his research from organizations such as the National Institutes of Health, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Education.
